Questions & Answers (Q&A)

How do we determine the eligibility within each Age Group?

To determine whether a candidate is eligible to participate or which Age Group a candidate falls under, he or she should determine their age as of May 1, 2020. Thus, candidates born after May 1, 2007 and born before May 2, 1985 will not be eligible in any Age Groups mentioned above.

Similarly, a candidate born May 1, 2002 will be considered for the Age Group 18-24 while the candidate born May 2, 2002 will be considered for the Age Group 13-17.

Should you have questions about which Age Group you will fall under or whether you are eligible to participate, please contact us at the phone numbers or email provided at the end of this Q&A.

If a candidate is a high-school student but is 19 years old, which category of Age Group will he be considered?

Age Group supersedes the Category of Youngsters. Thus, if a candidate is a high school student and is 19 years old, he or she would be considered for the 18-24 Age Group.

How are you going to validate a participating candidate’s age to ensure he or she falls in the right Age Group?

We are not going to ask for proof of age of participating candidates. By the way of registration and payment, the candidates self-certify that they fall within the right Age Group. At the time of awarding prize money, however, we may ask for proof of age from the top three and consolation prize winners.

Are multiple article submissions by a candidate allowed?

A candidate may submit multiple articles to increase his or her chances of winning. However, the candidate must pay the equivalent entry fee for such submissions. For instance, if you belong to the age group 18-24 and would like to submit three articles, you need to pay a total of three times of Rs.149 (i.e. Rs.447 as the entry fee).

Should the entry fee for multiple submissions be paid all at once? Or can a candidate pay the entry fee for second or third articles later at the time of their submission?

It is best to decide upfront on the number of articles you are going to submit and pay the equivalent entry fee all at once. If you have paid entry fee for only one article after registration, and then decide to pay entry fee for more articles at a later time, you may still do so before the payment due-date 11:59 PM 28th May 2020 (revised date).

Can siblings or members of the same family submit articles?

Yes, siblings or members of the same family may submit articles. However, each sibling (or family member) should have his or her individual registration and pay the required entry fee.

How are you going to validate that a candidate’s article submission is genuinely his/her submission, and was not done with the assistance of his/her relative, friend or affiliate who is an expert at writing articles?

Participating candidates must ensure propriety during this competition. While it is not very uncommon to take some high-level advice or guidance during such online competitions, all candidates must ensure that they write articles by themselves and not seek the assistance of others during the conceptualization and the writing process.

What are the criteria for evaluation of articles?

We will evaluate all articles on several aspects including structure, grammar & punctuation, formatting, flow of content in the article, originality, ideas proposed, etc.

Do the candidates need to follow any specific standard (or style) while writing?

We are not proposing any specific standard (or style) for writing.  We are aware there are different standards in writing, and candidates may choose the standards they are comfortable with. The evaluation criteria mentioned above does not include adherence to a specific standard or style.

Can the candidates submit previously submitted articles for other competitions, examinations, websites, mobile app, newspapers or magazines?

You cannot submit an article that was previously submitted for another competition, external examination, website, mobile app, newspaper or magazine. However, if you had written an article after January 1, 2020 for the purpose of internal (i.e. class, grade or section) test/examination specific to your school, college or institution, you may submit such article assuming it wasn’t published on any website, mobile app, newspaper or magazine.

Can candidates outside India, NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, internationals or non-Indian citizens participate in this competition?

Yes, anyone can participate in this competition as long as they meet age requirements mentioned on Page 1 of this document. However, the entry fee must be paid in Indian Rupees or US Dollars only as the website doesn’t accept other currencies.

How can a candidate who is good at Hindi or regional Indian language(s), but no so good at English, can participate in the competition?

If you can’t write well in English but good at conceptualization and writing in Hindi (or regional Indian language), we recommend you seek the help of someone to translate your write-up in Hindi (or regional Indian language) to English. You may then submit your article at our website just like other participating candidates. In addition, you are required to send a scanned copy of your original Hindi (or regional Indian language) write-up to [email protected]. This is to ensure we have your original write-up in case your article wins one of the cash prizes.

After registration and payment of entry fee, can a candidate ask for the refund of entry fee and not participate in the competition?

We recommend all candidates to be very sure about participating in the competition before they pay the entry fee. Due to the costs involved on our end in managing the registrations, payments, and evaluations, we can’t refund the entry fee whether you submit the article or not.

What should a candidate do in case he or she faces technical difficulties in submitting the article online?

We haven’t encountered any cases in the past where there was any technical issue in submitting the article online. We generally recommend all participating candidates submit their articles at least one day or several hours before the due date & time.
